When Avonda Fox lost her precious son, Jacob, she could have done many things. She could have become angry and bitter. She might have allowed herself to be completely consumed by pain and depression or she could have continued quietly through life – surviving for the sake of her other children. But Avonda chose a different path – she chose to honor Jacob’s short life with a strong mission to help other parents who experience a tragic loss.

Jacob’s Ladder is this strong mother’s gift to grieving families. Avonda knows where they have been and she knows the depth of their pain. And she knows that a helping hand offered by one who has been there is often the most healing medicine in the world. Jacob’s Ladder is also committed to advocating for improving child safety laws and this commitment will spare countless parents from a similar tragedy.

Avonda didn’t have to do anything; nobody would have faulted her for retreating into her grief or simply trying to forget. But she made the choice to make a difference through Jacob’s Ladder and our community and everyone she encounters is better for it.

At the time of Jacob Fox’s untimely passing, I neither knew Jacob nor Avonda, but the news of the tragedy touched me just the same. Little did I know then that I would soon be involved with Avonda Fox’s new foundation, Jacob’s Ladder.

When Avonda approached me about helping her design a logo and web site, I was impressed with Avonda’s positive outlook and her desire to help others who have been through similar tragedies—and ultimately I was inspired to help with her endeavor.

With Avonda’s dedication and passion, Jacob’s Ladder will surely flourish and help to ease the pain just a little bit for those who have endured the tragedy of the loss of a young child.
